Finding a Trusted Tree Services Contractor in Ajax
Ajax's leafy streets in neighbourhoods like Northeast Ajax, Pickering Village, and the older lots near Duffins Creek carry a mature tree canopy that's a major draw for homeowners, but it also means real upkeep. Mature silver maples and oaks planted decades ago along South Harwood Avenue and near Rotary Park are now large enough that storm damage, deadwood, and root heaving into driveways and sewer laterals are common calls for local tree services.
Ajax sits along ravines and tributaries feeding into Lake Ontario, so many properties back onto Town-owned green space or fall near Duffins Creek and Carruthers Creek corridors. Removals or major pruning near these areas can trigger conservation authority review (Toronto and Region Conservation Authority) in addition to any Town of Ajax permit requirements, since work close to a watercourse or valley slope is regulated separately from a straightforward backyard removal.
We do not currently have verified tree service contractors listed for Ajax. When contractors join, we'll confirm they carry general liability insurance, follow Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements for aerial and rigging work, and hold relevant arborist credentials (such as ISA Certified Arborist status) before they appear on this page. In the meantime, homeowners should ask any prospective contractor for proof of insurance, confirm whether a Town of Ajax tree permit or TRCA approval is needed for the specific property, and get a written scope before work begins.
We don't yet have verified local pricing data for Ajax tree services. Costs for removal, pruning, and stump grinding across the GTA generally vary with tree size, proximity to structures or hydro lines, and whether a permit or conservation authority review is required. Once contractors are verified in Ajax, we'll display real local price ranges here rather than estimates.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit to remove a tree on my property in Ajax?
The Town of Ajax regulates removal of certain trees, particularly larger, healthy trees on private property, through its tree protection provisions. If your tree is near a ravine, creek, or Town-owned green space, TRCA approval may also apply. Check with Ajax's Planning and Development Services before any removal, since cutting a protected tree without approval can result in fines.
Are Ajax tree service companies required to be insured?
Ontario does not license tree care as a distinct trade the way ESA licenses electricians, but any reputable company doing removals, climbing, or crane work should carry commercial general liability insurance and follow WSIB and Occupational Health and Safety Act rules for working at heights and near hydro lines. Always ask to see a current certificate of insurance before work starts.
What should I do about a tree near Duffins Creek or Carruthers Creek?
Properties backing onto these watercourses often fall within TRCA regulated area mapping, meaning removal or significant pruning close to the top of bank or valley slope may need conservation authority sign-off in addition to any Town permit. A contractor familiar with Ajax's ravine lots can help you determine which approvals apply before scheduling work.
